Rory McIlroy is six shots off the lead at the halfway stage of The Dunes Medal in Australia.

The teenager, 16, hit a level par 72 in the prestigious amateur event near Melbourne to share seventh place on one under.

Locals Jason Day (65) and Rick Kulacz (67) lead on seven under with English Walker Cup teen Oliver Wilson three shots behind in a tie for third with Won Joon Lee.

McIlroy will get another chance to shine with the professionals next week when he tees it up in the Mastercard Masters at Huntingdale.
