Peter Lawrie missed a great chance to break his European Tour duck in the Singapore Masters.

The Dubliner had to settle for a six-way share of eighth place on eight under after a closing 74.

But that still left him just three shots outside a play-off for the title on a day of disasters at Laguna National.

China's Liang Wen Chong hit a 73 to tie with Malaysia's Iain Steel on 11 under par as leaders struggled badly over the finishing stretch.

Liang then parred the first sudden death hole to grab his first European Tour win after Steel had pulled his tee shot into a lake to run a double bogey.

Just two behind leaders Liang and Gary Lockerbie starting the day, Lawrie's chances evaporated when he double bogeyed the 16th after a three-putt.

Former winner Nick Dougherty got to 13 under par with three to play but double-bogeyed the 16th and 17th and then missed a three-footer for birdie at the 18th to finish on nine under.

Overnight leader Lockerbie crashed to 30th place after a nightmare 80 with England's Simon Dyson finishing just one shot outside the play-off in third place after a 71.
