Lancôme Irish Ladies’ Close Championship

Child star Lisa Maguire blasted her way into the semi-finals of the Lancôme Irish Ladies’ Close Championship at Lahinch.

The 12-year-old from Slieve Russell beat Limerick's Catherine Tucker 4 and 3 and then thrashed The Curragh's Sinead Keane 5 and 4 to set up a semi-final clash with Tipperary's Marian Riordan on Wednesday.

Defending champion Tricia McDonnell’s hopes of securing a third successive Ladies Close victory ended in a 19th hole second round defeat to Irish International Sinead O’Sullivan from Galway.

But O'Sullivan had no answer to Riordan's brilliance in the quarter-finals, losing 6 and 5 after trailing by three holes at the turn.

In the top half of the draw, Carlow's Karen Delaney beat 2004 champion Deirdre Smith 4 and 2 and will face Maura Morrin, who beat Delaney's sister Tara one up.
