Padraig Harrington woke up to good news in Memphis yesterday as he regained his spot in the world's top 10.

The Dubliner has swapped places with Retief Goosen and moved back to 10th in the rankings ahead of this week's US Open warn up event - the $6 million Stanford St Jude Championship at TPC Southwind.

The Dubliner has no plans to visit Oakmont before next week's US Open but hopes to pick up valuable FedEx Cup and world ranking points in Tennessee alongside the likes of Vijay Singh and Adam Scott.

World No 2 Phil Mickelson has only a 50-50 chance of teeing it up after withdrawing from The Memorial tournament in Ohio with a sore left wrist last Thursday.

The left-hander began therapy yesterday after consulting a specialist in San Diego but with n break detected, he is hopeful that he will be fit to challenge for the US Open next week.

Memorial winner KJ Choi climbed 17 places to 15th in the world thanks to his victory but will rest this week ahead of the season's second major in Pittsburgh.

Wales Open winner Richard Sterne climbed from 59th to 35th, knocking compatriot South African Tim Clark out of the top 50 and out of an exempt spot for the Open at Carnoustie by just 0.01 points.

Choi, England's Justin Rose, Australians Aaron Baddeley and Robert Allenby, and Americans Charles Howell, Steve Stricker, Arron Oberholser and John Rollins will also be in Scotland thanks to their position in the top 50 of the world rankings.

France's Raphael Jacquelin, Austrian Markus Brier and Korean Yang Yong-eun also qualified through the European Order of Merit while another two, Americans Boo Weekley and Nick Watney, earned places through the US Tour money list.

Harrington, Darren Clarke and Paul McGinley will also be at Carnoustie next month.

But only Clarke will tee it up in this week's BA-CA Golf Open in Austria as he attempts to halt his slide down the world rankins.

Down two spots to 95th in the world, Clarke will be at Fontana Golf club alongside Graeme McDowell, Peter Lawrie Gary Murphy and David Higgins.

Kilkenny man Murphy is riding high following a share of sixth place in Wales that has catapulted him fron 115th to 80th on the European Tour money list.
