No fanfare for Champion Golfer Harrington
From Brian Keogh in Tulsa
Padraig Harrington was left frustrated again as the first tee starter ignored his Open triumph.
The Dubliner was disappointed not the be announced at Open champion during last week's WGC-Bridgestone Invitational at Firestone.
And it was the same story at Southern Hills last night as he teed off in the US PGA alongside US Open champion Angel Cabrera and Masters winner Zach Johnson.
Johnson and Cabrera were announced as being from Cedar Rapids and Argentina while Harrington was simply Ireland's Padraig Harrington.
But the starter had no problem announcing Jeff Sluman, 49, as the 1988 US PGA winner when he set off alongside David Toms and Phil Mickelson.
Harrington missed the first fairway with a rescue club but scrambled a par and shaved the hole for birdie at the second.
He parred the third and fourth as well to cruise along nicely at even par but then dropped his first shot at the 653-yard, par-five fifth to slip to one over.
Late starter Paul McGinley started with two pars at the 10th and 11th.
