Walker Cup foursomes pairings

By Brian Keogh

World No 3 Lloyd Saltman and Welsh wizard Rhys Davies will lead out Great Britain and Ireland against two of America's flamboyant stars.

Florida's Billy Horschel, who shot an amazing 60 in last year's US Amateur, will partner California teen Rickie Fowler in the opening foursomes.

Home hero Rory McIlroy teams up with fellow Ulsterman Jonny Caldwell against US Amateur champion Colt Knost and world No 2 Dustin Johnson in the second match.

But there is no place in the opening foursomes for Welsh veteran Nigel Edwards or his countryman Llewellyn Matthews.

Instead, GB&I skipper Colin Dalgleish has gone for English pairings in the last two matches.

Veteran Edwards, 39, will get his first taste of the action when he plays at number five in the singles against American superstar in the making Jamie Lovemark.

McIlroy will face Horschel in the opening singles with Rotherham's Danny Willett handed the task of taking on world No 1 Knost.

All 20 players will play on the opening day though GB&I's Caldwell and John Parry and US pair Trip Kuehne and Jonathan Moore will sit out the singles.
