Bad start for Ireland at Eisenhower Trophy
Ireland's bid for the World Amateur Team title suffered a serious reverse in Adelaide.
Mick Burns' three man squad of Shane Lowry, Johnny Caldwell and Paul Cutler finished the opening day a massive 13 shots behind the United States in a tie for 25th on three-over par.
With the two best cards to count, world No 7 Lowry was the odd man out as he crashed to a three-over par 75 at the Grange, one of two courses being used for the 72-hole team championship.
Caldwell birdied two his last five holes to be the best of the trio with a 73 as Cutler carded a two over par 74.
American Walker Cup stars Jamie Lovemark and Rickie Fowler shot five under par 68s at Royal Adelaide to top the leaderboard by two shots from Scotland on 10-under par.
