Royal Dublin's Niall Kearney was forced to retire injured in the second round of the West of Ireland Amateur Championship at Rosses Point.

The Dubliner hurt his shoulder on the third hole of his clash with Galway's Eddie McCormack.

"I could only hit the ball 200 yards and I was five down after eight," said Kearney. "There was no point carrying on and risking more damage."
