McDowell takes a month off
Graeme McDowell and Tiger Woods licked their wounds in an exhibition fourball last night after falling short in the WGC-CA Championship in Miami.
Fatigued McDowell failed to grab the top-five finish he needed to qualify for the Masters, finishing tied for 48th behind winner Geoff Ogilvy after a closing 73.
And Woods confessed that he "made too many mistakes" as he failed to extend his streak to eighth in a row.
McDowell, 28, will now take a month off to recharge his batteries after four weeks on the road.
Following his victory in Korea last week, he had a chance of sneaking into the Masters with a top-five finish at Doral.
But instead of chasing a last gasp Masters spot for the winner of next week's Houston Open, he will not reappear until the Volvo China Open from April 17-20.
Aussie Ogilvy parred his last nine holes of the weather-delayed CA-Championship to win by a shot from Retief Goosen, Jim Furyk and Vijay Singh on 17-under par.
World No 1 finished two shots behind Ogilvy in a share of fifth place after a closing 68.
The pair moved north to Orlando to team up with Henrik Stenson and John Cook respectively for the opening fourballs of the two-day Tavistock Cup between Lake Nona and Isleworth.
