Thornton wins Europro qualifier

Simon Thornton cruised to a six-shot victory in the Europro Tour Q-School pre-qualifier at Forest Pines in Lincolnshire.

The Royal County Down professional fired a pair of five-under par 67s to top the leaderboard on 10-under par. 

Walker Cup star Jamie Moul capitalised on home advantage to win at Stoke by Nayland.

The former amateur world number one, who is attached to the Suffolk club, fired rounds of 71 and 67 over the Constable Course for a six under total.

Belmullet amateur Michael Lavelle finished second behind England's Shane Winstone at The Players Club in Bristol.

Playing out of The K Club, he was two shots adrift on level par after following a superb 66 with a five-over par 76.

The 2007 East of Ireland champion, Banbridge's Richard Kilpatrick was eighth on two-over par after two 72s with former Shamrock Rovers winger Stephen Grant tied for ninth on four-over par.

Robert Perrett blasted a pair of five-under par 67s at The Bedford to win by a shot on 10-under par with Shane Franklin the best of the Irish in tied 38th on three-over.
