Ballymena's Chris Devlin has grabbed a fairytale place alongside Padraig Harrington and Tiger Woods in next week's US Open at Torrey Pines.

The former Ulster interpro, 33, shots rounds on 68 and 67 to tie for fourth place in a sectional qualifier in Columbus, Ohio.

Journeyman Devlin went to college in Alabama but has yet to qualify for one of the main tours after ten years in the US.

Married to an American four years ago, he is currently 43rd on the satellite Hooters Tour.
