The Faldo Course at the Lough Erne Resort has been ranked seventh in Golfweek magazine’s list of the Best of Great Britain and Ireland’s Modern Classic Courses for 2011.

“Golfweek, established over 30 years ago, has voted Lough Erne Resort 7th in its category of Best of Great Britain and Ireland’s Modern Classic Courses for 2011. The highly authoritative magazine has being compiling these lists since 1997 and has distinguished itself from other publications in terms of the depth of rating criteria which includes 10 specific topics.
 
“Modern Classic Courses” were defined as courses designed after 1960 and were evaluated by a group of 50-100 overseas raters who looked at routing, quality of shaping, greens and surrounds, hole memorability, tree and landscape management, conditioning and ‘Walk in the Park’ test, the sense of the place as worthy of spending four hours or more on it.
 
The 7,167 yard Championship Faldo Course which opened just 18 months ago eclipsed some of the most long established courses in the UK to enter the Top 10 for the first time and owner Jim Treacy is delighted with the recognition:
 
“We are all incredibly proud of this rating and it is even more special being honoured internationally and coming so soon after being voted one of the top three best international Courses by Sports Illustrated and Golf Magazine also in the US.”
 
The ratings just released in the January issue of Golfweek shows an interesting geographic distribution of the top modern GB & I courses with 16 highlighted in Ireland and just one (Lough Erne Resort) in Northern Ireland, Scotland 14, England 8 and Wales 1.
 
More recently Lough Erne Resort featured in Golf Monthly and Golf World’s Top 100 UK Courses for 2010 and was voted 22nd in Golf Digest Ireland Magazine’s  Top 100 Courses in the Emerald Isle which is festooned by the world’s best links and parkland courses.
