Lowry has slim final day chance at Ballantine's

Shane Lowry has an outside chance of clinching his first tour win as a professional at the Ballantine’s championship in Korea.

With just one hole of his weather delayed third round to complete on Sunday morning, the amateur winner of the 2009 Irish Open is four shots behind leaders Miguel Angel Jimenez and Brett Rumford, who have 27 holes to complete in the final day.

Lowry was four under par for the day and facing a 30 foot birdie chance on the 18th when heavy rain and the threat of lightning eventually brought play to an end hilly Blackstone course.

Jimenez and Rumford were two shots clear of Welshman Rhys Davies on 10 under with American star Dustin Johnson (26 holes remaining) one of seven players with three of the lead.

Lowry is tied with the likes of world No 1 Lee Westwood (24 holes remaining) on six under par with Damien McGrane two over for 10 holes of his third round and six behind.

Gareth Maybin was level par for 16 holes of his third round and eight off the pace on two under but it was a bad day at the office for Paul McGinley.

The Dubliner had seven bogeys and just one birdie in the 14 holes he managed to play on Saturday, slipping back to tied 57th on three over.

Jimenez summer up the task ahead in his inimitable fashion when he said: “Tomorrow, play 27 holes, feel good. I feel fine. Tomorrow is a marathon.”
