Harrington secures multi-year Wilson renewal

Padraig Harrington lets rip with a Wilson clubIt appears that Padraig Harrington - or Wilson - did enough this year to merit a “multi-year” contract renewal.

And it comes a year after the Irish star re-signed following the expiry of the estimated $10m, three-year mega-deal he landed at the end of 2008 following his golden run of three major wins in 13 months.

Last November, Wilson Golf announced that it had re-signed the Dubiner as a Wilson Staff Advisory Member following a horrific season.

At the time, Tim Clarke, general manager of Wilson Golf stated: “Harrington has been the face of Wilson Golf for many years during his successful career and we hope to see him in the winner’s circle in 2012.”

Evidently, it was just a one-year deal. But Harrington did indeed enter the winner’s circle in 2012, claiming the PGA Grand Slam of Golf in Bermuda and generally impressing from tee to green.

The dynamic between the two parties is obviously still strong with Wilson announcing on Wednesday that the three-time major has re-signed “in a multi-year deal that will see him continue to play Wilson Staff clubs on both PGA and European Tours from January 2013.”

According to the press release, Harrington first signed with Wilson Golf back in 1998, going on to win three Majors in 13 months, including back-to-back Open Championships in 2007 and 2008.

During his 15 years playing with Wilson Staff clubs, he has amassed more than €22 million in prize money (£18m) and won 26 tournaments worldwide.

The popular Irishman will continue to play with the Wilson Staff FG Tour V2 irons that helped him shoot his lowest round as a professional (61) at this year’s Transitions Championship and also claim the PGA Grand Slam of Golf in October.

Building on impressive showings at this year’s Masters (T8) and US Open (T4), Padraig will be using the new FG Tour TC wedges featuring Traction Control technology and the new D-100 hybrids in his Pro Tour bag, whilst continuing to feature the Wilson Staff logo on his headwear.

“I’m delighted to have renewed my relationship with Wilson Golf and for us to continue our long association,” said Harrington. “I can always rely on Wilson Staff clubs when it really matters and the support I get out on the Tour is second to none.

“I love the feel and control I get from the FG Tour V2 irons and I’m sure they will continue to serve me well on Tour next year,” added Padraig, who first used a Gene Sarazen 5-iron from Wilson Staff when he was just five years of age.

“We’re thrilled that Padraig has re-signed with us and continues this long relationship with the brand that has won more Majors with its irons than any other,” said Tim Clarke, General Manager of Wilson Golf. “Padraig is a great ambassador for Wilson Golf and the game itself and we look forward to working with him to deliver more success in the coming years.”

Harrington will also continue in his role as a Wilson Staff Advisory Member, helping with the development of clubs for the brand that has delivered an unrivalled number of Major wins with its irons (61) and wedges (82).
