The plus two handicapper was the only player in the field to break par as he took the narrowest of leads over East of Ireland champion Richard O’Donovan, Belvoir Park’s Harry Diamond and Co Sligo hope Barry Anderson. (See photos here)

Walker Cup player Alan Dunbar shot a 77 that left him tied with the likes of fellow international Niall Gorey.
