As England beat the Netherlands 6-1 and Scotland beat France 4.5-2.5 to reach the title decider, only Kevin Phelan could rescue a half point for Ireland as the other four matches were decided out in the country.

There was better news in the European Boys Team Championships at Murcar in Aberdeen as Ireland beat Scotland 3.5-1.5 and will take on Denmark for fifth place today with France facing Norway for the title.

At the European Ladies Team Championship at Fulford in York, Ireland lost 4-1 to Germany in the battle for ninth - Stephanie Meadow got the lone point - and meet Scotland for 11th-12th today.

Meanwhile, at the European Girls Team Championship in Sweden, Ireland also lost 4-1 to Germany in the battle for ninth and take on Denmark for 11th and 12th spot.
