McGee on fire

The Rosapenna man, top qualifier at the Section B European Tour Q-School test in Crewe last week, is just three shots behind pace-setter Ryan O’Neill heading into the final round of the Clipper Logistics Championship at Moor Allerton Golf Club. Leaderboard

O’Neill celebrated his 25th birthday with a six-under-par 65 to top the leaderboard on ten under after 36 holes, three clear of Billy Hemstock (65) and McGee (70) who has had three top-10 finishes in his last four starts on the satellite tour.

Limerick’s Tm Rice, was is 21st in the Order of Merit, added a 69 to his opening 67 to trail the leader by just four strokes on six under. 

Mick McGeady (two under), Neil O Briain (level) and Jonny Caldwell (one over) made the one over par cut.

This week’s event is the final chance to make the top 60 in the Order of Merit who get to play the season-ending, £60,000 Tour Championship at Prince’s Golf Club from October 15-17.

The Top 5 on the final money list win automatic promotion to the Challenge Tour and with £15,000 for the winner the likes of Rice, Colm Moriarty, McGeady, McGee and Paul Cutler are all in position to take advantage.

O Briain is 73rd in the money list and needs a brilliant round on Friday to have any chance of claiming the top-six finish he needs to progress to Prince’s.
