The 40-year old Cavan native carded rounds of 68 and 69 to lead on seven under par from Holywood’s Tony McClements with Banbridge’s Rory Leonard and Fortwilliam’s Joe Crangle three behind on four under.

Defending champion Shane Underwood from Co Sligo is ten shots off the pace on three over.
