McCarroll produces Italian job

Brendan McCarroll. Stephen Grant slipped seven shots off the pace as Brendan McCarroll produced a sensational six under 64 to make the cut on the Alps Tour.

The Irish pair are chasing victories and a top-five place in the final Alps Tour Order of Merit worth a Challenge Tour card next season.

And while 11th ranked Grant fell further off the pace in Italy on Friday, ending the day tied for 18th behind Steve Brown after an even par 70, fifth-ranked McCarroll at least survived to earn another cheque in the Golf Asiago Open.

The Ballyliffin man looked likely to miss the cut after an opening 75 but ended up making it with a shot to spare after carding an eagle and six birdies in his six under 64 at Golf Club Asiago.

Englishman Brown, meanwhile, leads by two shots from Frenchman Sebastian Gros on 10 under par.
