Eggenberger takes tasty lead at Baltray

Matthias Eggenberger, who formed part of a formidable Swiss team at this year's Eisenhower Trophy, set County Louth alight on day one of the Irish Colleges Invitational Tournament, writes the GUI.

A two-under 70 in round one was matched with another - much more impressive - effort in the afternoon winds at Baltray, which were enough to give Eggenberger a handsome lead in the individual standings, and also propel the University of Stirling into a surely unassailable 16-shot lead over Maynooth University's A and B teams.

Maynooth's charges are closely pursued by Waterford IT, UCD (B) and UCC (A), all of whom are one shot behind a podium berth going into the final round.
