Slow starts for Grant and Rafferty at Web.com Q-School

Stephen Grant

Stephen Grant from The Heritage and US-based Dungannon man Fergal Rafferty have work to do after opening with 72s at Stage One of the Web.com Q-School in the United States.

Former professional footballer Grant opened with a level par 72 at St. Johns Golf & Country Club in St Augustine in Florida, where he was two under with three holes to play but ran up a double bogey seven at the 16th.

He ended the day tied for 41st, seven strokes behind the leaders at a venue where the number of players to progress to Stage Two (normally around 20) has yet to be finalised.

At  Morongo Golf Club at Tukwet Canyon - Champions in Beaumont, California, Rafferty also shot a level par 72 in his opening round.

He's tied for 35th, eight shots off the lead.

As for Grant, it remains to be seen if he got to use his Aimpoint technique after being told by a PGA Tour rules official in practice that he can't straddle the line of his putts. Check his replies to this tweet.
