Defending champion Tom Cleary came out on top in the opening round of the Titleist Mid-West Alliance outing of the season at Dromoland Castle.

The gross stableford 72 hole competition — a double bogey or more costs you minus two points — saw Cleary keep a big number off his card to post 36 points and win by two points from NUIM Paddy Harrington Scholarship student Ronan Mullarney from Galway.

Straight driver Tom Saunders won the 4- 9 handicap category with 30pts.

The second round is on November 30th. Ring 061 368444 to book tee times.
