Hume and McElroy boost Ireland at Sotogrande

Jack Hume fired a best of the day 69 to go into the final round of the European Nations Cup just three strokes off the lead at Sotogrande and put Ireland in contention for the team title.

The Naas ace is tied for fourth place on two over par with Scotland's Neil Bradley as Holland's Lars Keunen (70) and Spain's Mario Galiano (73) lead by two strokes on one-under from Italy's Guido Migliozzi (72).

West Waterford's Gary Hurley shot a 74 and Ballymena's Dermot McElroy a fine 70 to leave them tied for 15th on seven over 223.

But while Cormac Sharvin's 76 was non-counting, Ireland go into the final round in second place in the team competition on 659, just four strokes behind leaders Italy.

In the women's competition, England's Annabel Dimmock (79) and Denmark's Nanna Koerstz (73) Madsen lead by two shots on 220 from Spain's Luna Sobrón Galmés with Spain out in front in the team competition by two shots from England on 445.
