Solid starts for Dawson and McBride at Sage Valley
Faithlegg's Robin Dawson and The Island's Paul McBride made solid starts to the prestigious Junior Invitational at Sage Valley Golf Club in South Carolina
Dawson had five birdies but while two of his five bogeys came at the last two holes, he still carded a level par 72 in the elite, 52-man invitational to finish the day just three strokes behind leader Theo Humphrey of the United States.
The young Waterford star is tied for eighth place with the likes of recently crowned Portuguese Amateur Championship winner Renato Paratore of Italy.
McBride is tied for 22nd despite carding a rollercoaster, two-over par 74 featuring six birdies, three bogeys, a double bogey seven and a triple bogey eight at his fourth hole.
