West Waterford's Seamus Power continued his hot start to the season when he fired a seven under 64 to qualify for the Web.com Tour's Rex Hospital Open at TPC Wakefield Plantation in North Carolina this week.

The 27-year old is enjoying a fine start to 2014 on the Carolina-based eGolf Professional Tour, where he currently tops the money list on $33,414 thanks to one win and four top six finishes in his first five starts.

On Monday, the three-time former Irish Youths champion teed it up at Wilson Country Club to battle for one of just six places in the field at this week's Web.com tour stop.

And he played a blinder, firing an eagle three and five birdies in a 64 to top the qualifiers by a stroke. Results

A decent result in the tournament, which has a prize fund of $625,000 and a winner's cheque for $112,500, could help Power get a foothold on the PGA Tour's second tier circuit.

The Carolinas based eGolf Tour, where Power has been plying his trade, has produced its share of future stars.

HP Byron Nelson Championship winner Brendon Todd played on the circuit in 2007, won once and jumped to the Web.com Tour the following season.

Other PGA Tour players who've played on the eGolf Tour were also on action in the Byron Nelson last week — Kevin Kisner (T16), Billy Hurley III (T16), Morgan Hoffmann (T16), Brian Harman (T29), Brendon de Jonge (T29), Brice Garnett (T29), Keegan Bradley (T29), Kris Blanks (T48), Jason Allred (T48), Lee Williams (T48), Brad Fritsch (T59), Martin Flores (T59), Jamie Lovemark (T64), Chris Thompson (T64), Jim Renner (T68), Josh Teater (T68), Luke Guthrie (70), Steve Marino (74), Kevin Foley (MDF), Mark Anderson (MDF) and Eric Axley (MDF).
