England’s Lucy Goddard led from wire to wire to win the Irish Women’s Open Amateur Strokeplay title by a stroke from Castletroy's Chloe Ryan at Douglas.

Having led the field by one stroke yesterday morning with an opening 71, she held the overnight lead by the slimmest of margins over Castletroy’s Chloe Ryan after an afternoon 74.

Ryan, who had fired a best of the tournament 69 in the wind and rain on Saturday afternoon, started strongly in the final round to make the turn in two under par and take a one shot lead over the English challenger into the final nine holes, eventually carding a one under 72.

But Goddard made a brilliant  eagle three on the long 14th to regain the lead and although she bogeyed the 17th, she was still one clear playing the 18th and two putted for a regulation par on the home green for a 72 and victory.

Ireland won the Nations Cup by 3 strokes from England with Wales.
