Irish champion Michael McGeady has a two shot lead heading into the second and final day of the The Heritage Challenge Pro-Am sponsored by Aidan O'Connell & Associates Ltd.

McGeady leads Massereene assistant, Noel Murray by two shots and Michael McDermott (Pure Golf Leopardstown) by three at the Co Laois venue.

In windy conditions the Seve Ballesteros designed course provided a real challenge for the professionals with the leading trio the only competitors under par.

McGeady's round was built on a solid putting display. He birdied the par five second but immediately gave that shot back at the third. Further birdies followed at five, seven and nine to see him out in three under 33.

He started his back nine with a birdie at the par five 10th and then reeled off eight straight pars to sign for his round of 68.

Murray, a two-time winner already his season birdied the sixth and seventh before slipping up at the par five eighth with a double-bogey. The Massereene assistant added two more birdies on the back nine to finish the day with a 70.

Michael McDermott (Pure Golf Leopardstown), a winner of the Athenry Pro-Am, is in third place after a 71.

Dean Redmond (The Heritage Golf&CC) used a six-iron to record an ace at the 225 yard par three 17th on his way to a five over 77.

McGeady is also leading the team standings after day one with 89 points, ahead of Daniel Sugrue and Noel Murray on 88 points.
