Ryan and Mehaffey exit Ladies' British Open
Irish interest in the Ladies' British Open Amateur Championship ended after the first day of matchplay combat at Royal St Georges Golf Club.
Castletroy's Chloe Ryan lost in the first round to Lauralie Migneaux of France by 3 and 2 and while Royal County Down Ladies' Olivia Mehaffey beat Madelene Sagstrom of Sweden 2 and 1, she lost 4 and 3 to Germany's Antonia Scherer in the second round.
The run of leading qualifier Laetitia Beck came to a halt when she lost on the 18th green to Scotland’s Gemma Dryburgh, who will play Dane Emily Pedersen in the first match tomorrow.
Alice Hewson’s run of form continued with a 4 and 3 win over Germany’s Laura Funfstuck, earning her a crowd-pulling tie in the morning against Su-Hyun Oh.
Three other English players, GB&I internationalists Hayley Davis and Gabriella Cowley and Rosie Davies who attends Indiana University, are also still in the mix.
