The Island's Gavin Moynihan is officially the world's 10th best amateur following his sensational win in the Carrick Neill Scottish Open Championship on Sunday.

The 19-year old, who has just completed his first year at the University of Alabama, soared 253 spots on this week’s World Amateur Golf Ranking to 10th thanks to victory at Panmure.

The 2013 Walker Cup player came from six shots behind Australia’s Geoff Drakeford in the final round, carding rounds of  69, 71, 68 and 67 for a two-shot win on five-under par 275.

Naas’s Jack Hume tied for second with Drakeford and England’s Nick Marsh, moved up 31 places to 82nd with Greystones' Paul Dunne down two spots to 48th though his runner-up finish in the East of Ireland Championship at County Louth came to late to be counted this week.

Ballymena's Dermot McElroy is the only other Irish player in the top 100, falling 25 places to 93rd after missing the cut in Scotland.
