The Heath's Mary Doyle played some sensational golf to lead the qualifiers in the Irish Girls Close Championship at Shannon.

The Irish Women's Close champion finished six shots clear of Laytown & Bettystown's Rachel Taylor with a remarkable 10 under total thanks to an opening 71 and a championship course record 67 that included eight birdies.

The faces Lurgan's Maeve Cummins in the first round on Thursday.
