Hurley and Moynihan challenging in Port Elizabeth

West Waterford's Gary Hurley and The Island's Gavin Moynihan are the leading Irish players entering Sunday's final round of the Srixon/Cleveland sponsored Eastern Province Border Strokeplay Championship at Port Elizabeth Golf Club.

Gary Hurley is the leading Irishman after two rounds of the Eastern Province Border Strokeplay Championship at Port Elizabeth Golf Club.

Moynihan opened with a five under 67 to set the pace in the morning round in the 54-hole event but it was Hurley who fare better in extremely windy afternoon conditions, adding a 70 to his opening 69 to go into the final round just two shots behind leader Ian Snyman on five under par.

Moynihan is tied for third place with South Africa's Andre Nel on four under 140 after a second round 73 with Naas' Jack Hume the next best of the Irish on two over.

The nine-strong Irish squad will tee it up in next week's South African Amateur Stroke Play Championship at Port Elizabeth Golf Club from 3 - 6 February before jetting home.
