Amateur David Carey continued his fine run of form at the Alps Tour Winter Series in Egypt as Headfort's Rory McNamara showed he's still got game on the Gecko Pro Tour in Spain.

The Carton House and Hermitage player, 18, made four birdies and two bogeys in a third round 70 to finish tied for sixth on nine under in the Red Sea Little Venice Open at Sokhna Golf Club.

That was good enough to take the amateur prize for the second week running. It would have been worth more than €1,000 to Carey as a professional but with a share of 13th in his first event and now his first Top 10, he's clearly improving his game ahead of the domestic season.

udging by these pictures (supplied by his father Dan), he's confident about they way his game is developing.

As for the winner, France’s Alex Widemann shot 65 to win by four shots from England's Tom Shadbolt on 17 under par.

Gecko Pro Tour — It's been a slow start for former amateur star Rory Mcnamara in the professional ranks but he picked up some useful cash in Spain on Wednesday when he finished second in the Gecko Pro Tour event at La Cañada. Scores

The former North and West of Ireland Amateur champion, now playing out of La Cala, looked to be streaking to victory when he played his first 13 holes of his second round in seven under par to shoot to the top of the leaderboard. 

A double bogey at the 14th and a bogey at the 15th put paid to that as he added a four under 67 to his opening 69 to finish a stroke behind Jordi Garcia del Moral on six under.
