Web.com Tour — West Waterford's Seamus Power is gradually building up a head of steam after  a tough start to the Web.com Tour season.

Brilliant on the eGolf Professional Tour last year and impressive as he cruised through Q-School, the Munster man missed his first four cuts before clinching a share of 48th in last week Chile Classic.

Back in the US for the first "home" start of the year after events in South and Central America, the 28-year old opened with a four under 67 to share 13th place after the opening round of the Chitimacha Louisiana Open presented by NACHER at Le Triomphe Golf and Country Club in  Broussard.

Level par after three birdies and three bogeys on his opening nine, Power stormed home in an immaculate 32 to trail leader Rhein Gibson (62) by five.

Azalea Invitational — Strength and conditioning coach Robbie Cannon outscored client Chris Selfridge by a shot in the first round of the Azalea Invitational at The Country Club of Charleston. 

While Spartanburg's  Todd White shot a six under 65 to lead by one from  Cody Proveaux,  Billy Kennerly and  Patrick Christovich, former South of Ireland and Irish Amateur Open winner Cannon birdied the last for a one under 70 and a share of 30th in his warm up for next week's Radisson Blu sponsored West of Ireland Amateur Open at County Sligo.

The Balbriggan man, who spent last week working with client Shane Lowry at Lake Nona and Bay Hill, had three bogeys but birdied the Country Club of Charleston's three par-fives before closing with a birdie three at the last.

Fresh from his recent win, University of Toledo senior Selfridge had four birdies, two bogeys and a double bogey in a level par 71 to share 45th.
