Caldwell and Kearney in position; Power wins 22nd PGA Tour card

Jonny Caldwell and Niall Kearney are inside the top 23 players and ties who will progress from Frilford Heath to the Second Stage of the European Tour Qualifying School.

Former Walker Cup player Caldwell and two-time Irish PGA winner Kearney posted one under 71s for the second day running to share ninth place on two under, nine strokes behind England’s Like Cornford and Scot Danie Kay,

The Island’s David Rawluk is a shot outside the qualifying mark on three over after a second round 76 with Mount Wolseley amateur Mark Morrissey well down the field after rounds of 82 and 86.

Swiss amateur Marco Iten shot a five under par round of 67 to claim a one shot lead at the halfway stage at Bogogno Golf Resort where Irish amateur Brian Kelly is 99th on 20 over par.

Iten, 26, leads on five under from England’s James Allan, who also made seven birdies during a four under par round of 68 at a venue where the top 25 and ties will qualify for November’s Second Stage

Web.com Tour Championship cancelled due to Hurricane; Power gets 22nd card

 The threat of Hurricane Matthew has forced PGA TOUR officials to cancel this week’s Web.com Tour Championship in Florida.

As a result, the four-tournament Web.com Tour Finals were deemed official through three events, with 25 players securing their TOUR cards for the 2016-17 season.

This means that West Waterford's Seamus Power, who finished ninth in the regular season rankings to earn one of 25 cards, is awarded the 22nd card of 50 in the pecking order for the 2016-17 season, which begins with the Safeway Open in Napa, California, next week.

The first set of 25 PGA TOUR cards for the 2016-17 season was issued at the conclusion of the WinCo Foods Portland Open presented by Kraft Heinz in August, with Regular Season leading money winner Wesley Bryan leading the way with $449,392 in earnings.
