Opening 67 for Power at Sea Island

Seamus Power

Seamus Power made another sub-par start on the PGA Tour when he made six birdies in an opening three under 67 in the RSM Classic at Sea Island Resort's Seaside Course.

The West Waterford golfer is tied for 60th behind Canada's Mackenzie Hughes, who shot a nine under par 61 on the Seaside Course (SS) to lead by one stroke from 2009 Open winner Stewart Cink (SS) and Jonathan Byrd  (SS).

Power opened with five pars on the back nine before holing a 16 footer for birdie at the par-five 15th, then recovered from a bogey at the short 17th with a birdie from 11 feet at the 18th.

His back nine was a roller coaster with bogeys at the second and sixth erased by birdies from eight feet, 12 feet and two from four feet at the first, fourth, seventh and eighth.

He was 19th for strokes gained putting and will have high hopes of making a move up the leaderboard when he tees it up on the Plantation Course on Friday.
