Seamus Power had a tough day off the tee and missed the third round cut after a three over 73 in the RSM Classic at Sea Island Resort.

The 29-year old from West Waterford hit just five of 14 fairways and also had two three-putts as he mixed two birdies with five bogeys on the Seaside Course to fall outside the top 70 and therefore fail to qualify for the final round.

With more than 78 players making the halfway cut — 80 made it this week — the PGA Tour uses the second cut rule to reduce the final round field size to the nearest number to 70.

Scores

With exactly 70 players on five over or better, Power's six over total left him out in the cold for Sunday though he will pick up prize money and modest FedEx Cup points.

Power is projected to fall 17 spots to 99th in the FedEx Cup as a result with Canadian Mackenzie Hughes projected to jump 51 places to fourth if he can turn his one-stroke lead over Camilo Villegas  (64), Billy Horschel (65) and Chinese Taipei's Cheng Tsung Pan (67) into a win.

Hughes shot a two under 68 to lead on 16 under par.
