Career best finish for Carey in Egypt
David Carey moved up to third in the Alps Tour’s Order of Merit when he finished a career-best tied second in the Dreamland Pyramids Open.
The 19-year from Castleknock, who went into the final round two shots off the lead, closed with a four under 68 to share the runner-up spot with Antoine Schwartz of France (68) on seven under par, just one stroke behind England’s Matt Wallace.
Carey drove the ball well at the Cairo resort, missing just two fairways as he racked six birdies and a bogey to put himself in position for a maiden win just 11 months after joining the paid ranks.
But second bogey of the day at the 17th, where he failed to get up and down from a greenside trap, proved fatal and while he was pleased with his long game, he confessed that he didn’t putt well enough to win.
Wallace signed for final round 69 to win by one shot and pocket €5,000 as Carey and Schwartz picked up €2,500 each.
The Dubliner is now third in the money list having finished T12, 6th and T2 in his three starts in Egypt, earning €4,264.
