First professional win for Gary Hurley

Gary Hurley

Gary Hurley got his first win as a professional and a cheque for £3,750 with a one-shot win on the Algarve Pro Tour on Tuesday.

The West Waterford talent shot a pair of four under par 68s at Onyria Palmares Beach & Golf Resort to win the Palmares Classic V from Craig Farrelly (66), João Carlota  (68) and Sam Robertshawe (71).

Hurley didn't make it through the European Tour Q-School last year following a brilliant Walker Cup win, but he'll be hoping to land a Team Ireland Golf Trust grant and up to seven Challenge Tour invitations for 2016.

"🏆 First W as a pro 💪🏼 thanks @pgaportugal @AlgarveProTour for your efforts and Emilí-Roís for all the caddy tips," Hurley wrote on his Facebook page after the win.

The Algarve Pro Tour offers budding tour pros and amateurs the chance to play competitive golf between November and March with players paying to compete for a top prize of £2,000 each week.

A two week package comprising a 15 nights in a single room, four tournament entries, practice rounds and other extras such as range balls, water and fruit, a yardage book and a trolley is priced at £1,495
