St Colman’s crowned Junior champs; Seven Irish for Fairhaven

Fermoy’s St Colman’s College created a little bit of history on Thursday when the captured the Irish Schools Junior Cup for the first time.
The Cork school won with two shots to spare as with two cards to count, Jeff Ennis' 82 was not needed as Eoin Carey’s nett 71 was added to Jack Scannell’s 75 for a winning total of 146.
Leinster champions St Kieran’s College from Kilkenny were second with 148 courtesy of Ned Kirwan’s 72, which featured a pair of birdie twos, and Sean Manogue’s 76.
Presentation College, Athenry were chasing a double after yesterday’s victory in the Senior Championship but they came up short in the Junior Final.
Although Cillian Lawless (4) matched Eoin Carey’s 71 thanks to a hat-trick of birdies, Athenry had to settle for third as they finished with a team total of 149.
Friends School, Lisburn ended the day on 151 - Rory Brown (74) and Brian Macauley (77) combining for the Lisburn team total.

Ireland name squad for Fairhaven
The cream of Irish junior golf boys will tee it up in the prestigious 72-hole Fairhaven trophies at the Lancashire club next week.
Bushfoot’s Owen Crooks, Hilton Templepatrick’s Jordan Logue will be back at Fairhaven where he will be joined by first timers Andrew Mulhall from Waterford Castle and Kinsale's John Murphy. Hilton Templepatrick's Reece Black will also tee it up.
Accompanied by team manager Alasdair Gibson they will play one round on Friday and Saturday with the lead 34 and ties qualifying for the final 36 holes on Sunday, 1 May.
Tee times
Last year’s leading Irish girl, Killarney’s Mairead Martin is joined by Lurgan’s Annabel Wilson as they battle another 22 girls for a place in the top six who qualify for Sunday’s final rounds.
Previous winners include former European Amateur champion and Walker Cup player Rhys Pugh and England’s Marco Penge, who won in 2013 and 2014.
Swede Joacim Ahlund and England’s Elizabeth Prior last year with Killarney’s Martin taking sixth place.
