Ireland in top flight battle at Chantilly

Ireland’s six-man team is three strokes outside the top eight who will qualify for the top flight after the first strokeplay qualifying round in the European Amateur Team Championship at Golf de Chantilly in France

While Stuart Grehan fired a one under 70 to lie 11th in the individual standings, three shots behind leaders Kristoffer Ventura of Norway and Finn Kim Koivu, none of his team mates could match par leaving Tony Goode’s charges with work to do in round two.

Denmark leads by one stroke on level par from Germany with Scotland, Norway, France, England, Spain and Italy rounding out the top eight who will face off for the title in Flight A.

At 10 over par, Ireland tied with Finland, three shots behind the eighth ranked Italians and two behind the Swiss.
