Forrest Little’s Julie McCarthy is the only Irish survivor in the Girls' British Open Amateur Championship at Royal St David's.

She beat Germany’s Lilly Marie Koester 3&2 and will now face Madelene Stavnar of Norway in the final 32 on Friday.

Lurgan's Niamh McSherry had a tough battle on her hands as she faced eighth best qualifier, Isobel Wardle of England and fell 3&2.

Ireland’s top qualifier, Killarney’s Valerie Clancy also found herself facing an uphill battle against 39th seed Emilie Alba Paltrinieri from Italy.

The Italian made a quick start and ran put a 4&3 winner.
