Copa Andalucia: Brazill dazzles in Marbella; Yates also going well

Kilkenny's Luke Donnelly in action at Real Club de Golf Guadalmina.

Naas’ Robert Brazill fired five birdies in a second round 70 to move up to ninth place at halfway in the Copa Andalucía in Marbella.

At level par, plus one handicapper Brazill is seven shots behind Spain’s Angel Hidalgo, who added a 66 to his opening 71 to lead by  a shot from Sweden’s Marcus Svensson on seven under par at Real Club de Golf Guadalmina.

Mark Power

Brazill’s clubmate Jonathan Yates, the West of Ireland champion, made a big move up the leaderboard to joint 10th on one-over after he fired a one under 71 featuring two birdies and just one dropped shot.

Yates is tied with Irish Boys champion and fellow Senior panellist Mark Power from Kilkenny, who had two birdies and four bogeys in a two over 74.

The objective is to make the 54-hole cut for the top 50 and ties and Rosslare’s John Brady is also in position to progress after a second successive 74 left him four shots inside the projected cut mark on four over par.

Kilkenny’s Luke Donnelly and Laytown and Bettystown’s Thomas Mulligan both struggled to rounds of 80 and are six over and 12 over respectively.

Golf Clement Ader’s Eamonn O”Driscoll shot 81 to be tied 80th on 15 over.
