Dermot McElroy was cruelly denied his maiden professional win on the Gecko Pro Tour when Alex Belt eagled the last to win by a shot at Marbella Golf Club Resort.

The Englishman came to the par-five 18th needing a birdie to force a playoff with McElroy, who sat in the clubhouse on six under par 136 after rounds of 70 and 68.

But to the Ballymena's dismay he went one better, finishing with a three for a 69 that was good enough to win by one on seven under.

According to Ten-Golf, it was Belt’s second win in his last three outings on the Gecko Tour.

“I’m playing really well,” said Belt, who is preparing to chase his card on the PGA Tour China. “I’ve been playing at a high level for a while, even though results haven’t gone my way.”

Belt hit a huge drive down the middle, rifled an iron into the middle of the green and drained a 25 footer for victory, leaving McElroy still waiting for his maiden professional victory.

Manuel Quirós was third with Jaime Camargo, Order of Merit leader Gabriel Cañizaresand Andreas Andersson rounding out the top five.
