Seamus Power could only manage a one under 71 but Canada’s Adam Hadwin made La Quinta Country Club look easy as he shot a 13-under 59 in the third round of the CareerBuilder Challenge.

The 59 comes a week after Justin Thomas recorded a 59 in round one of the Sony Open in Hawaii, marking the first time the Tour has seen a sub-60 score in back-to-back weeks.

“I think what gives me the most confidence is that I knew exactly what I needed to do and through that whole process, if anything, I was thinking 58,” Hadwin said.

“To be able to do it when I needed to, I know I was nervous, my putt barely went in on 17, and I only had six feet. So, I was happy to see the putt drop on 18. Last thing I wanted to do was miss a 3-footer for 59.”

Hadwin, 29, becomes the eighth player in PGA Tour history to break 60 on the PGA Tour, and the second to do so at the CareerBuilder Challenge.

David Duval shot a 59 in the final round on the Arnold Palmer Private Course at PGA WEST to win the 1999 tournament.

Hadwin’s 59 is the fourth to come on a par-72 course. He also tied the PGA Tour record for most birdies in a round with 13. 

He joins Al Geiberger, Chip Beck, David Duval, Paul Goydos, Stuart Appleby, Jim Furyk and Justin Thomas as players to record a 59 or better on the PGA Tour.

A native of Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan, Canada, Hadwin joined the PGA Tour in 2014-15 after successful careers on the Web.com Tour and Mackenzie Tour – PGA Tour Canada. 

Still seeking his first career victory on the PGA Tour. where his previous low round was a 63, Hadwin will begin the final round of the CareerBuilder Challenge with a one-shot lead over Dominic Brozzelli on 17 under par.

Power is tied for 32nd on eight under after making three birdies and two bogeys in his third round.

He was two under after early birdies at the 13th and 16th, his fourth and seventh, but bogeyed the 17th and the second before picking up a shot at the par-five fifth coming home.
