Too little too late for Carey

David Carey in action at Sokhna Golf Club in Egypt

Alps Tour — David Carey mounted a late fightback but missed the cut by one stroke in the Red Sea Little Venice Open in Egypt.

The Dubliner was three-over-par for the day and two-over-par for the tournament with four holes to play at Sokhna Golf Club, 50km south of Suez.

But while he birdied his 15th and 17th holes, he could only par his 18th and a two-over-par 74 saw him miss the level par cut by the minimum.

Lars Van Meijel of the Netherlands (66) and Spain's Lucas Vacarisas lead by one shot on nine-under-par from Italy's Jacopo Vecchi Fossa (69) heading into Wednesday's final round.

Tommy O'Driscoll finished bogey-double bogey for a 76 and missed the cut by four strokes while his brother Eamonn, still an amateur, shot rounds of 81 and 83 to finish well down the field.
