GUI retains Carey Cup after 6-6 tie
The GUI retained the Governor Hugh L Carey Challenge Cup when they halved the singles and tied 6-6 with the Metropolitan Golf Association of New York at Galway Bay.
Tied 3-3 after the foursomes and fourballs on Wednesday, the sides won three singles apiece to leave the match tied overall.
As holders, the GUI retained the trophy.
The Americans won the top two matches with Castle's Alex Gleeson falling 4 and 3 to Darin Goldstein and 16-year-old Kilkenny debutant Mark Power losing 2 and 1 to Ethan Ng.
Wins for Naas duo Conor O'Rourke and Jonathan Yates put the GUI in front and while Kevin Le Blanc only fell at the 18th, Colm Campbell had a clear-cut 4 and 3 win over Stewart Hagestad to claim the GUI's third point.
