Tour success means grabbing chances when they come along and Gavin Moynihan has an opportunity in Spain after he came through an 11-man playoff to make the match play stages of the Andalucía Costa del Sol Match Play 9 at La Cala Resort.

Only the top 32 after two strokeplay rounds made today's matchplay stages but after a 67 left him in an 11-man shoot-out for five spots on three under 137, Moynihan birdied the first playoff hole to secure a first round clash with Spain's Scott Fernandez.

Derry's Ruaidhri McGee was the only other Irish qualifier thanks to a second round 66 and he now plays Scotland's David Law.

Moynihan made it through the playoff along with England’s Billy Hemstock and Sam Hutsby progressed after they all birdied the first extra hole.

Switzerland’s Joel Girrbach and Denmark’s Rasmus Hjelm prevailed at the second play-off hole, which they both birdied.
