Jordan denies Galbraith at St Andrews

Hoylake's Matthew Jordan survived a late wobble and a push by Whitehead's John Ross Galbraith to lift the St Andrews Links Trophy and succeed Naas' Conor O'Rourke as champion.
The Royal Liverpool player has had an excellent season but needed a win to push himself into the reckoning for a Walker Cup spot despite not being a member of the panel.
Now he's very much in the frame after he closed with rounds of 69 and 70 to overhaul the Galbraith and win by a shot on 11-under 277.
Tied for the lead with Galbraith after a 69 in the morning, Jordan birdied five of his first 12 holes to move five shots clear of the Irish star on 14 under par.
While he bogeyed the 13th. he was still four ahead standing on the 17th but finished bogey, bogey to set the target.
Galbraith got back to nine under par with one to play but couldn't out from the Valley of Sin for eagle to force a playoff and had to settle for a birdie and a fine second place finish.
As for the rest of the Irish, Robin Dawson, Conor Purcell and Colm Campbell tied for 10th on four-under with Jordan Hood tied 30th on one-under.
O'Rourke tied for 42nd on four over with Jonathan Yates and Caolan Rafferty a shot further back.
