McGinley tenth on European Senior Tour debut

Paul McGinley warmed up for the Senior Open by finishing tied for 10th behind Welshman Phillip Price on his European Senior Tour debut at the WINSTONgolf Senior Open.

Price overturned a three-shot deficit on the final day to win his first European Senior Tour title by one stroke on 14-under par.

A member of Europe’s victorious 2002 Ryder Cup side, he started the day three strokes behind American Clark Dennis but raced into the lead after making five birdies over the first six holes.

Bogeys on the 11th and 13th holes were cancelled out by gains on the 12th and 15th, and Price needed to par the last for a 67 and his maiden senior title by one shot from Thailand’s Thaworn Wiritchant, who equalled the course record of 64 to finish on 13 under par.

Price’s next appearance will be at the Senior Open Championship Presented by Rolex on home turf at Royal Porthcawl Golf Club from July 27-30.

McGinley shot rounds of 73, 69 and 67 to finish tied 10th on seven under par before his trip to Wales for the Senior Open.
