Home win for Rosapenna's Frank Casey Jnr in Ulster Mid-Amateur
Frank Casey Jnr used his local knowledge to perfect effect when he claimed a comfortable victory in the Ulster Mid-Amateur Open Championship at Rosapenna in Donegal.
Rosapenna's Director of Golf, Casey Jnr opened up a five-stroke lead over Ballybunion's Peter Sheehan and Mid-Amateur Order of Merit leader Eddie McCormack from Galway Bay when he defied wind and rain on day one to card rounds of 79 and 75 on the Sandy Hills Links.
He then added a six-over 78 in more wind and rain in Sunday's final round to win by four strokes from McCormack and Sheehan, who both closed with 77s, on 16-over 232.
Sheehan won the Over 50s prize by three strokes from Co Sligo's Serryth Heavey while Lurgan's Brian Scullion was second to Casey Jnr in the nett, albeit 10 strokes behind, on 14-over.
